The Secretary to the Government of Federation, SGF, Boss Mustapha has said the outgoing Minister of Water Resources, Engr. Suleiman Adamu was one of the trusted allies and core professionals relied on by President Mohammadu  Buhari during the eight-year administration.  

The SGF revealed that President Buhari has had a working relationship with Adamu which dates back to Buhari's days at the defunct Petroleum (Special) Trust Fund (PTF) and has helped gain the trust of the president because of his commitment to professionalism and commitment to duties.

Mustapha who hailed the contributions of Engr. Adamu to the water sector,  on Saturday evening, at the dinner organized by the ministry to bid the Minister farewell explained that the minister is a core professional who is not given into politics in the course of his professional assignment.

Earlier in a welcome address the permanent secretary of Water Resources, Mrs. Didi Walson-Jack while listing the achievements of the minister called on him to consider an elective position in the future. 

Mrs. Walson-Jack explained that given his achievements on his assignment as a minister, it would be good for Adamu to take a shot at political office in the future.

The permanent secretary and other admirers of the minister donated a website to kickstart the project should he decide to contest in the future.

 The permanent secretary who listed the many achievements of the minister since his resumption in the ministry said the indices in the Nigeria water sector were low before the coming of Engr. Adamu.

She, however, said since his resumption in ministry the water sector had experienced a significant leap. 

Also speaking the UNICEF Nigeria representative, Dr. Jane Bevan hailed the contribution of Adamu to water, sanitation, and Hygiene ( WASH) in the eight years.

While on his part the Executive Secretary of the African Minister Council on Water, (AMCOW) Dr Rashid Mbaziira hailed Adamu for his contributions to the development of the water sector in Africa. 

He specifically hailed Adamu for his efforts to stabilize the secretariat of the council. 

While the ministerial advisory council on water spoke through Prof. Mustapha

 said his success was because he, from the onset, set a clear strategy for the sector. According to him, Parts of the success strategies were the development of the water road maps for the sector.

Responding, Engr. Adamu said he has no regret being a minister for the past eight years and called on the Permanent Secretary and other management staff of the ministry to ensure the sustainability of the idea he has initiated.

He said the water road map and other strategies for water development should be sustained for the good of Nigerians
