The Nigeria Police command has said that the Kano State Counsel has taken over the prosecution of the Majority Leader of House of Representatives Hon. Alhassan Ado Doguwa in the alleged murder case during the last Presidential elections.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the Kano police Command Spokesman on Monday, in a series of reactions on the official WhatsApp platform explained that 'the State Counsel has taken over the prosecution from the Police"
"After legal advice, the case has already been charged to court, and the case file was also handed over to them." SP Kiyawa said
"Those of you in Kano are much aware of the case and the happenings in the court. The case is no longer with the Police. The State Counsel has taken over the prosecution from the Police."
SP Kiyawa who appeared baffled by Professor Alkali's outburst admonished the erudite professor on the "need to know the situation of the case before commenting."
"I think the Police are supposed to be commended for their pro-activeness in handling the case."
He maintained that "the arraignment is by the State Counsel and not by the Police. Be guided, please."
The National Chairman of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Prof. Rufai Alkali, had on Monday, accused the Nigeria Police of not doing enough to bring to justice the Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, Hon. Alhassan Ado Doguwa, for his alleged role in the attack on NNPP supporters in Kano State resulting in the killings of many.
Alkali regretted that the lawmaker who was allegedly seen on a viral video with a shotgun shooting at NNPP supporters, and instigating attacks on the party’s facility in the state, “is still walking the street as a free man”.
He said that while relevant authorities are reportedly still investigating the incident, the Nigerian Police is carrying on its activities as if “human lives don’t matter anymore in the country”.
