NHRC condemns Yobe man for starving wife to death
She was reportedly confined in a room for one year

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has condemned the starving to death, of a woman by her husband, in Yobe State. She was reportedly confined in a room for one year.
The Executive Secretary of the Commission, Chief Tony Ojukwu OFR, SAN, made this condemnation while reacting to the mindless incident. He however commended the Commission’s State Office in Yobe, as well as the State Police Command and Divisioal Police Office, Nguru Division, for their interventions before the eventual death of the victim, at the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, Kano.
The NHRC boss observed that the treatment meted out to the woman by her husband was a violation of the Anti-Torture Act 2017, and other relevant regional and international Principles to which Nigeria is a signatory.
He called on the Nigerian Police to thoroughly investigate the case and make the report of their investigations known to the Commission, assuring that justice would be done in the matter.
