NEPZA boss mourns exit of chairperson Maritime Trade Group

Prof. Adesoji Adesugba, Managing Director of the Nigeria Export Processing Zones Authority (NEPZA) has described the sudden passing of the Chairperson, Maritime Trade Group, Princess (Barrister) Margaret Nkem Onyema-Orakwusi as huge loss to the country’s business community. 

Dr. Martins Odeh, Head, Corporate Communications of NEPZA in a statement on Monday said Onyema-Orakwusi was an entrepreneur and legal practitioner with bias in the maritime sector had passed on Friday 28th April 2023 after a brief illness.

Adesugba said the deceased was a prime figure in the country’s business space, adding that the Authority had benefited from her wisdom at different occasions to unravel some challenges.

 He also said that the deceased had significantly contributed to the country’s economy through her explorations in deep-sea shrimping and fish trawling (with her vessels), fish exportation, importation and seafood processing, as well as fish farms.

``Late Barrister Onyema-Orakwusi was the first Female President and a Council member of the Nigerian Trawler Owners Association, an association of registered industrial fishing companies. She was able to organise the sector to respond to the demands of the market.

``I wish to on behalf of myself and NEPZA express our deepest sympathy on her loss as we also pray for the repose of her beautiful soul.

``We wish to also empathise with the Executive and members of the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture (NACCIMA) at this moment of grieve.’’ Adesugba said.
